KAZUBGULA BRIDGE OPENS

THE NATIONAL ROAD FUND AGENCY IS PROUD TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH THE KAZUNGULA BRIDGE BETWEEN ZAMBIA AND BOTSWANA, A MULTI-NATIONAL PROJECT IN THE NORTH-SOUTH CORRIDOR, THAT WILL TREMENDOUSLY BOOST TRADE IN THE REGION AND BEYOND.

THE BRIDGE WILL SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVE THE TRADE INFRASTRUCTURE OF THE SOUTHERN AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT COMMUNITY (SADC) AND THE AFRICAN CONTINENT AS A WHOLE.

A ONE-STOP BORDER FACILITY HAS BEEN ERECTED IN BOTH COUNTRIES WITH A 930-METER-LONG AND 18.5-METER-WIDE ROAD-RAIL BRIDGE.

THE BRIDGE WOULD PROVIDE VITAL TRANSPORT INFRASTRUCTURE ON THAT CORRIDOR AS IT WOULD FACILITATE EASY ACCESS TO INTRA-REGIONAL TRADE AND THE INTERNATIONAL MARKET THROUGH CONNECTIVITY WITH MAJOR SEAPORTS.

AS AN AGENCY MANDATED TO UNDERTAKE RESOURCE, MOBILIZATION, FIDUCIARY MANAGEMENT OF RESOURCES, AND ENHANCING VALUE FOR MONEY ON ALL ROAD PROJECTS ON BEHALF OF THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF ZAMBIA WE ENDEAVORED TO MEET ALL THE FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS THROUGHOUT THE CONSTRUCTION PHASE OF THIS ICONIC BRIDGE.

THE FINANCIAL BURDEN WAS MITIGATED BY THE ROAD TOLLING PROGRAM AND AM GLAD TO ANNOUNCE HERE THAT MOST OF THE REVENUE FOR CONSTRUCTION WORKS OF THE KAZUNGULA BRIDGE WERE PROCEEDS FROM THE TOLLS REVENUE.

SPECIFICALLY, WE PAID OUT CONSTRUCTION COSTS OF OVER USD 80 MILLION OF THE CERTIFIED WORKS FOR THE PROJECT.

WE WANT TO ASSURE ALL STAKEHOLDERS OF THE TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY IN THE COLLECTION OF ALL FINANCIAL RESOURCES FOR ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT INFORMED BY OUR STRONG INTERNAL SYSTEMS AND CONTROLS.

WE HAVE ROLLED OUT A CASHLESS PAYMENT SYSTEM AS A FASTER, AND SECURE WAY OF PAYING TOLLS AND WE SHALL BE ISSUING THE ELECTRONIC TOLL CARDS TO MOTORISTS AT THE KAZUNGULA BRIDGE JUST LIKE AT ANY OF THE PORTS OF ENTRY.

WE INTEND TO MIGRATE ALL HEAVY-DUTY VEHICLES ON THIS PAYMENT PLATFORM BY 1ST JULY 2021.

WE PAY TRIBUTE TO OUR PARENT MINISTRY OF FINANCE, THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF ZAMBIA, AND ALL STAKEHOLDERS FOR THE SUPPORT RENDERED TO THE AGENCY.
