The Government of the Republic of Zambia has embarked on the upgrade and reconstruction of key infrastructure facilities across the country. One of the key projects is the upgrade of the Lusaka to Ndola road to dual carriageway using the Public- Private Partnership (PPP) financing Model.
This financing model will leverage on the National Road Tolling Programme within the framework of the PPPs, allowing Government to free up public resources for other priorities and needy areas whilst still enabling the development of the much-needed road infrastructure.
Three Toll Gates operated by the National Road Fund Agency (NRFA) on the soon to be developed dual carriageway namely; Katuba between Lusaka and Kabwe, Manyumbi, between Kabwe and Kapiri mposhi both in Central Province; and Kafulafuta, between Kapiri mposhi and Ndola on the Copperbelt Province will be part of the infrastructure to be modernized and operated by the Concessionaire once all matters precedent to the commencement of this PPP project have been concluded.
The NRFA has since initiated a multi-stakeholder engagement process involving the Road Development Agency (RDA), the Concessionaire, and the Workers representatives (Unions) to ensure that a smooth transition process is undertaken within existing provisions of the law.
It must be emphasized that the Government through the implementing Agencies will ensure that workers interests and rights are protected and jobs secured during this process.
