Road Tolling Commences in Eastern province
The National Road Fund Agency (NRFA) has commenced Road Tolling at the Alexander Grey Zulu Toll Gate between Nyimba and Petauke and the Reuben Chitandika Kamanga Toll Gate between Katete and Chipata in Eastern Province.
The NRFA’s modus operandi is to proactively Mobilize Resources and administer the Road Fund transparently and sustainably, to ensure value for money and stimulate social-economic growth.
In extending its tolling footprint, the Agency has commenced tolling at Reuben Chitandika Kamanga Gate between Katete and Chipata in Eastern Province. NRFA Public Relations Manager Alphonsius Hamachila made this announcement when he paid a courtesy call on Senior Chief Kalindawalo of the Nsenga People in Petauke in Petauke District on 29th August 2020
Mr. Hamachila said the Agency projected a combined monthly toll revenue contribution of about K2 Million from the two toll gates and thanked the traditional leadership in the province for the continued support of this critical government program aimed at raising domestic revenue for road works.
Mr. Hamachila stated that the opening of the two toll gates had resulted into job creation for young people and brought the total number of toll collection points to thirty seven 37 which included ten ports of entry.
And Chief Madzimawe of the Ngoni people in Kasenengwa District says the construction of tollgates along the Great East is long overdue.
Chief Madzimawe said that tolling is an innovative way of raising resources that can go towards the maintenance of the roads, He has advised local people to support the national road tolling project.
“I hope the money raised from the tollgates will also go towards the construction of other roads in the province such as the Chipata/Vubwi and Chipata/Chadiza roads.” He said
And Mr. Hamachila called on motorists in Eastern Province to acquire electronic toll cards as a faster and efficient way of paying tolls ahead of commencement of road tolling at the Alexander Grey Zulu Toll Gate between Nyimba and Petauke Districts and the Reuben Chitandika Kamanga Toll Gate between Katete and Chipata district on 1st September 2020.
He said the Agency has 15-thousand Electronic cards in circulation and has earmarked to collect 60 percent of the toll’s revenue through the cashless solution by the end of the year
Mr. Hamachila also urged motorists who reside within a 10-kilometer radius of the two toll gates to register for local user discounts.
He said motorists who would frequently access the toll gates will be granted a frequent user status after the tenth passage and enjoy rebates of up to 75 percent. Mr. Hamachila further called on the traditional leaders to support the national road tolling program as a Sustainable way of raising domestic revenue for road infrastructure development.
