Airtel goes cashless on the Road

The National Road Fund Agency (NRFA) recently conducted a highly

successful e-toll card sensitisation exercise at the Airtel Zambia Head Office in

Lusaka aimed at raising awareness among Airtel staff on the benefits, functionality, and long-term value of adopting the E-Toll card system for both individual and corporate travel requirements.

NRFA E-Toll team  set base at Airtel Zambia Head Office and  took advantage of the growing interest by providing detailed explanations, demonstrations, and one-on-one guidance to Airtel staff keen to learn more about the cashless system.

Throughout the exercise, Airtel employees expressed genuine enthusiasm and were eager to understand the operational benefits of the E-Toll card, particularly as the country continues to embrace digital and cashless payment solutions. They members posed practical questions regarding card usage, top-up procedures, balance management, account security features, and the overall improvements the system brings to travel experiences at toll plazas nationwide.

A key highlight of the event was the strong uptake in card purchases. By the end of the day, 100 E-Toll cards had been sold one, of the highest single-day sales recorded during a corporate sensitization exercise. This impressive figure reflected both strong interest and confidence in the value of the system.

To complement the sales activity, the E-Toll team conducted live demonstrations showcasing how users can top up their cards through various digital payment channels. Staff were particularly impressed by the speed and reliability of the system, which eliminates the need for cash transactions and enables smoother, faster passage through toll points.

Beyond individual purchases, Airtel management expressed keen interest in exploring a corporate (pool) account that would allow the company to centrally manage toll payments for its entire fleet. Such an arrangement would offer enhanced efficiency, reduced administrative workload, and improved budgeting and tracking of vehicle movements. Discussions on this potential partnership are expected to continue, signalling a promising opportunity for long-term collaboration between Airtel and the E-Toll system.

Speaking during the event, Jacob Sivilino, Security and Fleet Officer at Airtel, praised the initiative, stating: “This system has the potential to greatly simplify how we manage tolls across our entire fleet. The option of having a pool account is something we are very interested in exploring further.”

Jacob Sivilino, Security and Fleet Officer, and Acting Marketing Director Fortune Pule signed up for their E-Toll cards during the exercise.

Overall, the sensitization exercise fully achieved its objectives. It enhanced employee awareness, strengthened confidence in the E-Toll card system, and laid the groundwork for deeper corporate engagement. The event marked another important step in promoting cashless tolling solutions and building strategic partnerships with key stakeholders across the country.
