NRFA STAFF DONATES K60, 000 TO CANCER DISEASES HOSPITAL

National Road Fund Agency (NRFA) members of staff  have donated K60, 000.00 towards supporting health initiatives at the Cancer Diseases Hospital in Lusaka.

Speaking during the donation, NRFA Acting Road Tolling Director Charles Kandeke said Agency staff recognised the importance of Corporate Social Responsibility as a mechanism to support and help uplift local communities within which NRFA operated from.

Eng. Kandeke said cancer remained one of the major health challenges affecting many Zambians and the burden it placed on families, communities, and the health care system called for collaborative efforts from all sectors.

He said Agency staff’s collective responsibility extended beyond financing the construction of roads and bridges but encompassed the well being of the people in pour communities.

Eng, Kandeke stated that the donation was not only about providing resources but giving hope to patients and their families as well as standing in solidarity with healthcare workers who dedicated their lives to saving others.

And receiving the donation on behalf of Senior Hospital Superintendent Dr. Susan Msadabwe, Head of Clinical Care Dr. Paul Kamfwa welcomed the kind gesture  and highlighted the hospital’s critical role in providing comprehensive cancer treatment.

He noted that while key services such as chemotherapy, nuclear medicine, and surgery remained operational, the radiotherapy and imaging section were currently non-functional. He said despite numerous challenges  the hospital remained Zambia’s primary cancer treatment facility, handling the highest number of cases in the country.

Dr. Kamfwa  pointed out that cervical cancer was the most prevalent cancer treated at the hospital, followed by Kaposi’s Sarcoma, breast cancer, prostate cancer, and esophageal cancer.

Expressing gratitude on behalf of patients, Miss Barbara Mweemba a beneficiary at the Cancer Diseases Hospital thanked NRFA for its thoughtful contribution, highlighting the importance of continued support for cancer patients.
