The National Road Fund Agency (NRFA) will, on 1st September 2025, open two modern toll gates between Chinsali and Isoka and between Isoka and Nakonde in Muchinga Province.
The two toll gates which have been installed with modern features such as automatic vehicle number plate recognition and customer fair display units will add to the growing road tolling footprint across the country bringing the total number of inland toll gates operated by the NRFA to 26.
NRFA Public Relations Manager Alphonsius Hamachila has said that road tolling contributes over 50% of domestically raised revenue towards road construction, maintenance rehabilitation, and related road transport services in Zambia.
Mr. Hamachila says all motorists using this road will be required to pay the prescribed tolls based on vehicle type and classification and has called on Chinsali and Nakonde residents who reside within a 10 kilometre radius of any of the two two toll gates to register for Local User Discounts.
He said the cash payment system will be in use at the two toll gates alongside the Agency’s Electronic Toll Card which is a faster, efficient and secure way of paying tolls.
And some motorists have expressed support for the tolling expansion saying the measure could significantly boost funding for road maintenance and development, provided that the revenues were used transparently and effectively.
